Mary Florence Saunders

Mary Florence Saunders, a beloved matriarch, community volunteer, and accomplished weaver and spinner, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2023 at the Southampton Care Centre at 93 years of age. Born on December 10, 1929, Mary lived a full and vibrant life, leaving an indelible mark on her family and community.
Mary was predeceased by her devoted husband, Alfred Saunders, who passed away in 1999. Their enduring love story was a testament to their shared values of family, community, and service. Mary was a loving mother to her six children: Jim (Pam) Saunders, the late Leslie, the late Gerald, Janet Saunders, Nancy (Robert) Moss, and Gordon Saunders. Her role as a grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her immense joy and satisfaction. Mary was the eldest of 9 siblings in her family, survived by Carl, Shirley, Jack and Larry, predeceased by Lloyd, Don, Doris, and Jean.
Throughout her life, Mary was an active participant in her community. She was a proud member of the Oxford Weavers and Spinners, where her skill and creativity were greatly admired. Her love for weaving was more than a hobby; it was a testament to her patience, precision, and artistic flair. For many years, she volunteered at the Fanshawe Village in London, Ontario, where her warm personality and tireless work ethic were greatly appreciated.
Mary's community involvement extended to her role on the Woodstock Fair Board. Her passion for local events and her commitment to fostering community spirit were evident in her work. Her contributions to the Fair Board were significant and lasting, and her presence will be deeply missed.
Visitation will take place on Thursday November 23, 2023, from 6-8 pm, and continue Friday November 24, 2023, from 12-12:45 pm followed by a funeral service at 1 pm at Brock and Visser Funeral Home (845 Devonshire Ave 519-539-0004).
