Lilley, Wilma Cuthbertson (Hoggarth)

1922-2023

Passed away at the age of 100, a few months short of her 101st birthday at Sunnyside Nursing Home in Kitchener on September 1st, 2023. Predeceased by her husband Alec Lilley in 2009, her father Norman Hoggarth and her mother Mary Elizabeth Hoggarth (Donaldson), her sister Norma of Wolverton at the age of 15, her brother Gordon of Preston, her sister Margaret DeBausk of Cambridge and her brother Hugh of Kitchener.

Born on the family farm in Wolverton on December 29, 1922. She was the oldest child of Norman and Mary Hoggarth. She often spoke about riding and driving the horses, churming butter and gathering eggs to be sold to the grocers in Ayr and Drumbo. She enjoyed skating on the Nith and learning to swim by the mill in Wolverton. She attended the one room school at the end of the lane for 8 years and then walked to Drumbo every day to attend high school. She said 2 years of that walk was enough so off to work she went. She married Dad in October of 1942 just before she went off overseas.

Mother of Lynda (Verne) Rumble of Princeton and Ron (Jean) Lilley of Kitchener. Grandmother to Bryan (Shannon) Rumble of Brantford, Brad (Susan) Rumble of Princeton, Sarah (Paul) Werner of Kitchener and Mark Lilley of Kitchener. Great grandmother of 10 and great great grandmother of 12. Mom always looked forward to the next event or family get together. She was strong willed and determined which served her well over the years. Special thanks to the staff of Sunnyside Nursing Home for the excellent life and care that they gave Mom.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Brock & Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Avenue, Woodstock, ON.

Funeral will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 in the funeral home chapel. Wilma will be laid to rest next to her husband Alec at the Princeton Cemetery.
