William passed away peacefully on July 16, 2022, at Woodstock General Hospital in his 82nd year.
William was the devoted husband of Janice (nee Jackson). Loving father of William James (Marcia), David (Veronica), and the late Tracy (Lloyd Turner). Proud grandfather to Ryan, Shannon (Josh Boehm), Erin (Paul Whalen), Leigh, Brennan (Shannon, nee Blakely), and Nicole. Cherished great-grandfather to Eoighan, James, Jackson, Kaija, Chloe, Maxsten and Emylia. Brother to Margaret Wray (nee McEachran). William is predeceased by his daughter Tracy and his siblings Annie Mueller (nee McNeilage), Rose Whicher (nee McNeilage), James McNeilage and George McEachran.
Born to Annie (nee Campbell) and William John McEachran in Glasgow, Scotland, William emigrated to Canada in 1957 settling in Toronto. There, he met Janice Jackson, also from Scotland, and they married on April 23, 1960. William adored Janice, who was his lifelong love and best friend. Janice would say he was her “Prince Charming.” William was a devoted husband of 62 years, caring for Janice through her battle with dementia in her later years.
William was a loving father to William James, David and Tracy, and balanced fatherhood with a growing career. He loved spending quality time with family and felt honoured to be a father. His daughter Tracy was a “ray of sunshine” to the family until her passing in 2018. He delighted in being a grandfather and dearly loved all his grandchildren. Later, William would joke that he was so great at being a grandfather that his title was upgraded to “great-grandfather” status when his seven great-grandchildren came into this world (they call him “Grandpa ‘Addy,” meaning Grandpa’s Daddy.)
William’s first job was at International Harvester, where he began in the mailroom. He later worked for Sun Oil Company (Sunoco) before founding Penny Fuels Inc. in 1982. Penny Fuels Inc. was a family business that was co-founded with Janice.
William was an avid golfer and was a long-time member of Scarborough Golf and Country Club. He also spent time golfing at Saddlebrook Golf and Tennis Resort in Florida. During his later years, William played at the Nottawasaga Resort Golf Course in Alliston, Ontario.
William had a lifelong passion for music, song and piano. For many years, William and Janice hosted an annual Christmas Carol party with friends and family; William would play the piano and lead guests in singing Christmas carols.
Throughout his life and their time together, William and Janice were devoted to family first, always. For that, their family owes eternal thanks. He will be dearly missed and always in their minds.
