Newell, William E. (Bill) - in his 80th year, at Woodstock General Hospital, August 5, 2004 after a brief illness. Gone, but not forgotten, he was a lifelong resident of Woodstock and worked at Barney Printing for many years. In his more active times, he enjoyed golfing at Craigowan, curling at Woodstock Curling Club; membership in the Imperial Trumpet Band, Woodstock Shrine Club, Mocha Temple (London), Probus Club of Woodstock and Oxford County Naval Veterans Association. He served in the Navy in World War II and attended at the Queen's Coronation. He is survived by his daughters, Susan (Paul) Gillen of Woodstock and Patricia Melehes (fiancé Jack Tackle) of Victor, Idaho and two grandchildren, Kyle and Paige Melehes of Idaho. He was predeceased by his wife Mary Jane (1993), his brothers Ralph, Phil, sister Dorothy and parents Ernest and Dorothy Newell. Friends and relatives may pay respects to his life at the R.D. Longworth Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 539-0004, Sunday August 8, 2004, 7-9pm with a service to be held Monday, August 9, 2004 at 1:30pm. A celebration of his life will be held at the Oxford County Naval Veterans Association, James St., Woodstock on Monday at 3 to 5 pm.
