Werner Pflugfelder

August 7, 1929 — May 14, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Werner Pflugfelder announce his passing May 14, 2024, at the age of 94 in Woodstock, Ontario. Werner was born on August 7, 1929, in Germany. He is survived by his loving wife Johanna, with whom he celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in September of 2023, his brother Erich, of Leinzell, Germany, his two sons Peter (wife, Helen) and Kenneth (wife, Ida) along with six adult grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Werner's family was a source of great pride and enjoyment for him and he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all.

Werner immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1952 with empty pockets in search of a better life. Johanna Kerschbaum, followed the same path shortly thereafter and they were married in September 1953. While they did not have any material advantages starting out, through hard work, natural intellect, and frugality, Werner and Johanna created a secure and loving home in which to raise their two sons. Werner was later able to enjoy a long healthy retirement filled with travel and creating cherished memories with his family, as well as indulging his passion for collecting rocks and minerals, coins, stamps and many other curiosities.

Coming from a humble background, Werner did not have access to the educational benefits available to his children. However, he had a deep respect for the importance of education and made sure that his sons took advantage of the educational opportunities available to them to the full extent of their abilities. The careers and achievements of his sons and grandchildren brought him tremendous satisfaction and joy and, while he would never claim the credit, his intelligence and work ethic inspired each of their paths and subsequent successes.

In accordance with his wishes, Werner's remains will be cremated and his ashes will be interred at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery in the presence of close family.
