KELNER, Wanda, nee Wiley. A resident of Woodstock, and previously Oxford Centre, Wanda Kelner passed away at Woodingford Lodge on March 21, 2022, at the age of 94. Loving wife of the late Orland Kelner (2016). Cherished mother of Blair Kelner and Joan Morris, and Susan Kelner. Proud and loving grandmother of Brayden, Jordan, Gillian, Jared, and Karen. Caring sister to brother W. Elden Wiley (Andrea). Predeceased by brother Roy (2009) and sister-in-law Marion Wiley (2017), infant sister Evadne (1924), and sisters-in-law Laura Kelner (1935), Velma (Dean), Markle (1959), and Ruby (D. Wray) Jeffery (1998). She will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Wanda was born July 6, 1927, in Whitewood Saskatchewan to Isa Evadne Lumb and William Wellington Wiley. During the Second World War, they moved to Fort William, Ontario. After her high school years, at the end of the war, there was a shortage of teachers and Wanda began her teaching career at 18, teaching Grades 1-8 in a small community near Port Arthur. She continued her teaching career in Southwestern Ontario, and her parents and brother Elden, relocated close by to Springfield in 1948 to run the community store. While teaching, she met Orland and they married on July 4, 1953. Wanda taught school for over 33 years while raising her family and helping to manage the farm. Most of her career was spent teaching her favourite grade, Grade 2, at North Norwich Public School in Burgessville. In her retirement years, she enjoyed talking with her past students and fellow teachers, sewing, quilting, and knitting for family, and spending time at the cottage on Sand Lake with family and friends.
