Walter Earl Baker

October 3, 1945 — May 17, 2024

Walter Earl Baker, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 17th, 2024, at Woodstock Hospital. Beloved husband of the late Charon Baker, his devoted partner for 57 years.

Together, Walter and Charon raised a beautiful family, including their children Tamara (Warren) Baker-Burgin, Tracy (Michael) Baker-Collins, and Todd (Crystal) Baker. As a grandfather and great-grandfather, he delighted in the achievements and milestones of his grandchildren Courtney (Nedžad) Alibegić, Tyler (Brianne) Collins, Calley White, Patrick Collins, Cassidey Baker, and Brady Collins, as well as his great-grandchildren Kaedan, Landen, Malik, and Emmet. His legacy of love and wisdom will continue to guide them. Walter leaves behind his dog, Bear.

Walter's enthusiasm for life was contagious, and his interests were many. He was an avid hockey player and coach, sharing his knowledge and passion for the game with countless young athletes. His high school football days were fondly remembered, and the lessons learned on the field stayed with him throughout his life. Walter also enjoyed the excitement of the casino, where he was known for his friendly demeanor and good humor.

Walter's sister, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends will lovingly remember him. His presence brought light and laughter to every gathering, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Detective Inspector Walter (Wally) E. Baker #3833 joined the OPP on March 17, 1969 and retired on April 30, 1999.  Wally served at the Cobourg Detachment, Intelligence Branch, Operational Services Branch, Technical Support Branch, Special Enforcement Unit and Criminal Investigation Branch (London).  He was very well respected by all who worked with him. After retiring from the OPP he was not ready to settle down and embarked on a new adventure by starting Eagle Investigations which was a very successful business. He never completely retired until March 2024.

Friends are invited to join the family on Saturday, May 25th, 2024, at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock from 2 to 5 pm. A celebration of life for both Charon and Walter Baker will take place at a later date.
