WALLACE H. NUTT A LOVE STORY PART 2 Wallace H. (Wally) Nutt was born April 7, 1924 in St. Catherines, Ontario to Cecil and Mary Elizabeth Nutt (nee Moore). Sadly, Wally was predeceased by the love of his life Marjorie (nee Cronkwright) in 2012. Always the scholar, Wally excelled in school at an early age apprenticing to become a tool and die maker in his late teens. This would prove to be the beginning of an illustrious career in manufacturing and a voracious appetite for continuing education. Wally delivered bread from his uncle's bread truck to earn money during high school. There was a lovely young lady by the name of Marjorie Cronkwright at a house in Merritton on his route. It seemed that Wally was smitten with Marjorie from the moment they met; the Cronkwright family never had to worry about their bread supply from that moment on. Marjorie and Wallace dated through their late teens, often double dating with Marjorie's cousin Mary Ann and Frank (Mary Ann's beau). This was the beginning of what would be Marjorie and Wallace's dance through life. They became dance champions as their love evolved, dancing to the Big Band music that they would cherish throughout their life together On April 7, 1945 the couple wed as their Love Story blossomed. As time went by, they welcomed 5 children: Diane, Dane, Denita, Delani and Daunell into their lives and their home was always filled with love, laughter, music and a lot of spilled milk. Wallace and Marjorie caught the skiing bug at a young age and taught all 5 children to ski, along with many friends over the years. Wally's greatest passions were family, skiing and travel - with their travels taking them to almost every country throughout the world. Favourites that brought a smile to his face were safaris in Africa, skiing at Whistler and sailing. Wally was born to sail and owned many motor and sail boats throughout the years with the final one - Aries being the biggest and the best. Wally and Marjie spent many summers enjoying sailing with friends and family at the yacht club in Port Dover. Over the years, Wally and his family lived in Niagara Falls, Kitchener, St. Catharines and finally Woodstock. St. David's United Church welcomed the family and Marjorie and Wallace became long standing members of the congregation, with Wallace singing in the choir for many years. As their children grew up and started families of their own it provided them with a number of cherished grandchildren, and afforded them the opportunity to pursue travel to a greater degree. The two Love Birds danced at the Moulin Rouge in their 70's where everyone cleared the floor and watched in amazement as they worked their magic. They received a well deserved standing ovation from the crowd. The pair was still dancing and drawing applause as they danced at Marjorie's 85th birthday with family and friends present. Wally was a determined individual with an incredible zest for life and adventure. Throughout the course of an exemplary career in manufacturing a number of companies benefited from his excellent management skills which he never stopped honing. Wally was a member of many associations and clubs including Toastmasters, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, the International Society of Machinists, Canadian Industrial Management Association, Canadian Forging Association and the American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers. His longest tenure was with Teledyne Inc. An illustrious career with Teledyne commenced at the plant in Woodstock and would see Wally move up the ranks to the position of President of Teledyne Canada and Group Executive of Teledyne Inc. During his illustrious career with Teledyne Wally applied for and was granted 8 patents. When Marjorie's eyesight succumbed to macular degeneration and she became legally blind at age 79 Wally donned a Blind Skier Guide Vest with Marjorie in a Blind Skier vest which provided them the opportunity to ski for 4 more years together. True to form, Wallace was right by her side making sure the way was safe. Throughout their lives together, Wallace and Marjorie supported and cared for one another. Wallace was Marjorie's rock when she was dealt a number of health challenges in her later years, always there with the gentlest of care, a kiss and kind words. They were known as the cutest most loving couple ever at Caressant Care Nursing Home and Retirement Home. He would always tell everyone that she was the love of his life! Wally's life is a perfect example of a life of accomplishment, continuing education, a life well lived and loved. The life he lived with Marjorie and their family are a testimony to the beautiful soul that the Good Lord placed on this earth 89 years ago. Wally will always be remembered for his sense of purpose, determination, can do attitude and his incomparable spirit. By: Denita D. Fischer
