Trevor John Slater

SLATER, Trevor, J. - Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters at University Hospital in London, on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013. Trevor J. Slater of London and formerly of Woodstock in his 96th year. Trevor will be missed by his beloved wife Mildred Grace Slater (nee Smith). They spent over 66 years of marriage together which began on July 31st 1946. Together Trevor and Mildred had three daughters; Brenda Turnbull and husband Stephen, Judy Nowell and husband Richard, and Danielle Stewart and husband John. Beloved son of the late Arthur and Elsie Slater. Proud Poppy of five grandchildren: Brent (Kelly Jones) Turnbull; Ryan (Alison Smith) Nowell, Melanie (Justin Coombs) Nowell-Coombs; Cory and Connor "Con-man" Stewart. Cherished "G.G. 2" of Riley and Parker Turnbull; Emily and Liam Nowell; Amelia Coombs. Predeceased by his brothers Reg, Leslie, Stanley, Arthur, Maurice, Kenneth and by his sister Joan Bogaert. Trevor was a member of the former Chalmers United Church, life member of the Oxford Masonic Lodge # 76, and Oxford-Harris Chapter # 18 R.A.M. He was the Past President of the Kinsmen Club of Woodstock, and an Alderman with Woodstock City Council, before becoming Mayor of Woodstock. He was chairman of the Woodstock P.U.C., a member of the Probus Club of Woodstock, and member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #55 Woodstock. Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519-539-0004 on Thursday July 4th, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm, where the complete funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday July 5th 2013 at 11:00 am. Cremation to follow. Interment later in the Presbyterian Cemetery, Woodstock. If desired, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer Society or the Crohns and Colitis Foundation would be appreciated.
