Travis passed away Monday, September 13, 2021. He was only 18 years old.
Travis was born on March 19, 2003, in Woodstock, Ontario to beloved family Angela, Derek, Kaitlyn and Mike Vermeersch. To his family and friends Travis was known as the guy who always smiled, always made people laugh, always trying to do his best, always willing to start a conversation with someone who appeared alone. A natural athlete, and compassionate player, Travis always worked hard to improve, and always made sure all his teammates, regardless of skill, had the opportunity to play. Travis was loved and respected by his family, friends, teachers, and coaches. He attended East Oxford Elementary School and graduated from St. Mary’s School where he played Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Track & Field, and Hockey, winning many MVP awards, Male Athlete of the Year Award from Grade 8-12, Male Warrior Grad Coach’s Award, and Most Coachable Award. Along with school sports, Travis played with Norwich Minor Hockey, Norwich Minor Soccer, Woodstock Minor Hockey, Woodstock Stallion Soccer, Tillsonburg Titans Soccer, Norwich Otterville Otters Baseball, Woodstock Legion Athletic Club and Stratford Cobra Volleyball.
Travis is survived by his parents Angela and Derek; his sister Kaitlyn and his brother Mike. He also leaves his grandparents, Adrian and Nellie Couwenberg, Arlene Vermeersch and John Vermeersch. His aunts and uncles, Perry Couwenberg (Kim), John Couwenberg (Val), Carolin VanDenBoogaard (Ben), Arlene Couwenberg (Todd), Adrian Couwenberg (Ann), Dallas Vermeersch (Rebecca) and Jason Vermeersch, many cousins, and his close friends Cole Wilson, Seth Bender, and Jack Skoneczny.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Brock and Visser Funeral Home in Woodstock (519-539-0004). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to the scholarship fund in Travis’s name at St. Mary’s High School. To donate please e-transfer to travisvmemorialfund@gmail.com
