Thomas "Tom" Sidney Birtch

Thomas "Tom" Birtch, passed away peacefully with family at his side on February 9, 2024, in his 88th year, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born June 7, 1936, in Woodstock, Ontario, Tom's life came full circle as he departed this world in the same city that he loved and called home for so many years.

Tom was predeceased by his first wife, Sandra (nee Walker d. 1984), who left an indelible mark on his heart and with whom he shared his four adoring children; Tracy (Megyn), Tiffany, Trevor, and Tasha (Jamie Adams), who will forever cherish the wisdom and kindness he imparted.

Since 1995, he was the beloved husband of Carolyn (nee Flood), with whom he enjoyed taking motorhome trips and many wonderful winters in Florida.

A proud grandfather, Tom's joy was multiplied through his grandchildren, Cassandra, Ben, Margaret, Lauren, Nate, and Alexander. Each of them will forever carry forward his spirit of generosity and kindness.

He was a devoted brother to John and was predeceased by his brother Bob and sister Mary.

As we say goodbye to Tom, we celebrate the tremendous impact he has had in leaving us with many memories that will continue to inspire and guide us.  He embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength in spirit, enduring friendship and an unending generosity.  Even in his final days, despite the challenging outlook he faced, he regularly used his unique sense of humour to bring smiles and laughter to those around him.

It was Tom’s wish that no visitation or memorial take place and that a private family interment service will follow later.  The family appreciates your support and asks that in lieu of flowers, donations to the London Health Sciences Foundation or the Woodstock General Hospital Palliative Care Unit would be most appreciated, recognizing the excellent care and compassion they provided.
