VAN WYK, Ted - On Monday August 8, 2016, Ted Van Wyk died peacefully at the John Noble Home (Brantford). Ted was in his 93rd year and will now be farming and milking cows somewhere with his beloved wife Lucy who he was married to for over 53 years and passed away in 2009. He was a devoted father to all of his children: Bob (Dianne) of New Durham, Mary-Ann (Doug) Peart, of Hagersville, Ted (Jeanette) of Waterloo, Lucy of Waterloo and Dave (Michelle) of Drumbo. "Opa" will always be remembered by his grandchildren: Claire (Alex), Kevin and Chris Van Wyk, Jennifer and Heather Peart, Lydia and Jordan Van Wyk, David and Steven Kendall, and Madison & Emma Van Wyk. Ted is also survived by his sister in Holland, Greet Bunschoten, and many other relatives in Canada and Holland. He was predeceased by his grandsons, Curtis & Connor Van Wyk (2004), his parents, Hendricus & Johanna, brothers Cor, Egbert, John & Miens, and sisters Annie & Corrie. Ted was a lifelong dairy farmer and after emigrating from Holland in 1950, farmed for 61 years at his "little kingdom" west of Curries. In those short periods between chores and all manner of farm duties, he delighted in life with his wife Lucy (whether dancing or just sitting under their favourite maple tree), playing with children (both family and neighbours), and enjoying family, friends and neighbours whenever they visited. He also loved to watch the Toronto Maple Leafs, NFL football and the always entertaining sport of politics, especially in the USA. As per Ted's wishes, there will be no funeral home visitation or service. However, please join us at a memorial open house to celebrate Ted's life on Saturday August 27, 2016 between 2 - 4:30 pm at the Oxford Centre Community Hall, Oxford Centre, Ontario (eulogy 3:30 pm). Planting trees was one of Ted's favourite activities so in lieu of donations, please plant a tree in Ted's memory. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brock & Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519-539-0004. Online condolences at www.brockandvisser.com The family thanks the wonderful staff on Davis Court of The John Noble Home in Brantford for all the love and care they provided each and every day that Dad/Ted lived there.
