Hallgren, Teresa (Terry) Sigrid – It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Terry at the Woodstock General Hospital on Tuesday April 19, 2022 in her 101st year. Loving mother of Gail Laird (James deceased) of Woodstock, Carol Lindquist (Eric) of Sweden and Robert Hallgren (Bibi) of Mississauga. She was the amazing grandma of Fiona (Kevin) Knight, Jamie (Rachael) Laird, Selina, Daniel and Amy Lindquist, Chris (Shereena) and cherished great grandma of Sadie and Ewan Laird and Soraya Godfrey. Her best scratches will be very much missed by the many family dogs, Roux, Molly and Callie.
Terry was born December 4, 1921 in Hamilton and lived her early life in multiple cities in southern Ontario before moving to the small Northern Ontario Scandinavian community of Kipling, in her early teens. She was one of five children born to Ernst and Tekla Sundquist - Herbert, Dorothy, Ernest and Ester. She is survived only by her brother Ernie.
Terry moved away from her family home in northern Ontario to start her life. There were many stories from the apartment that she lived in with ‘the girls’, until she met a handsome Swedish man at a dance who eventually would become her husband.
She married Hans Hallgren in 1949 and soon after they started their family. They lived in Richmond Hill for many years, where you could find Terry always busy being a wife and partner, mother and friend. You could find her cooking her famous roast beef and the world’s best gravy. If you were lucky you might get some of her absolutely delicious apple pie. Of course, she loved to sew, garden and knit. There wasn’t much this lady didn’t do.
In 1978 she moved back to her family home in Northern Ontario with Hans to take care of her mother. She hosted many a gathering with all of her family in attendance. She especially loved all the Swedish visitors.
Hans passed in 1990, so until she moved to Woodstock in 2009, she took care of the house and all the acres of land and loved to have family visit. She did things that maybe she shouldn’t have, and the story of the falling off the ladder will never be forgotten.
Terry was the glue that held the family together. She was always singing and ready for a laugh, could complete word puzzles faster than you could blink and would never turn down a rum and coke. She has left us with many treasured memories, a lot of hand knit socks, hats, mittens and sweaters and quilts, and lots and lots of little knit Santas.
A special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff of Woodstock General Hospital for their continued excellent and caring support during Terry’s stay.
Friends are welcome to join the family at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519-539-0004 on Saturday April 23, 2022 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Cremation has taken place.
