Sheila Audrey Hooper, born on December 6, 1955, in Cottlesville, Newfoundland, passed away peacefully at Sakura House on January 27, 2025, in Woodstock, Ontario. Sheila dedicated over 20 years of her life to the YMCA, where her commitment to helping others shone brightly. Sheila was married to her beloved husband, Barry, for 48 wonderful years. Together, they created a loving family that included their two children, Jennifer (Justin) and Jonathan (Ján), as well as three cherished grandchildren, Madeline, Austin, and Lucas and precious dog Bella. She was a wonderful wife, mother and Nana.
Sheila is remembered for her kind and genuine spirit, her caring and loving nature, and her wonderful sense of humor. She had a remarkable ability to connect with others and always lent a helping hand to those in need.
Sheila was predeceased by her parents, Maxwell and Selena Anstey, her sister Rose and her brothers Junior and Rex and her father-in-law Hubert. She is survived by her siblings Maisie (Mark), Helen (Junior), Fred (Marion), Ted (Lisa), Verna (Glen), Terry (Arlene), Nancy (Nixon), Trevor (Peggy) and her two sister-in-law’s, Josie and Diane, her brother-in-law, Wayne (Lucy) and her mother-in-law Gladys.
The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Stephen Welch, Oncologist, and Dr. Aaron Regis and the team at Sakura House for their compassion and kindness during Sheila's difficult time. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Cremation has already taken place and an afternoon in remembrance will take place at Brock and Visser Funeral Home on Saturday, February 8 from 2-4pm. A private family funeral and burial will take place at a later date in Newfoundland as per Sheila’s wishes.
