Sandra May Schurman

With sadness, the family of Sandra May Schurman announce her passing on July 6, at Woodstock Hospital. Beloved wife of 59 years to Dave. Super Mom to Alex and MaryJane, Chris and Donna, Heather Beynen and Jerry. Grandma to Cassie (Bryan), Lauren (Kyle), Jeremy (Bianka), Marissa (Scott), Katie and Lannie. Great Grandma to Morgan, Emily and Jack. Predeceased by her parents, sister and brother.

Sandra was born in Kimberley, BC. She attended an all girls school of Crofton House in Vancouver and obtained her nursing diploma from the Royal Columbian Hospital, New Westminster. She was stationed at Centralia, Ontario.

After marriage to Dave she became a dedicated volunteer for Girl Guides of Canada being a leader in Woodstock then organizing the Embro branch and coaching baseball. Her extended years with the Zorra Skating Club was her legacy as club President and Chairperson for the HOME Region.

Sandra’s true passion was camp and was affectionately known as nurse “Bandaid”  at Camp Bimini and Kamp Tanner. Her tidy cabin awards were carefully handmade and she always ensured all campers and staff members were safe. For Sandra’s 32 years of service, she was the recipient in 2015 for Staff-Volunteer Camping Award  by the United Church of Canada.

She was a great fan of all her kids and grandkids sports, enjoyed playing the piano, listening to Opera, making Christmas cookies and toffee, and being Sandra Clause. Her angel food cake was a family favourite.

A deep heartfelt appreciation to all the nurses and doctors who cared for Mom, especially during her last difficult stay in the hospital. Your patience and compassion was a blessing.

The family will receive family and friends at Brock and Visser  Funeral Home (845 Devonshire Ave 519-539-0004) on Wednesday July 10, 2024 from  6:00-8:00pm followed by a Memorial service to  be held on Thursday, July 11th, 2024  at 1:00pm in the Brock and Visser Funeral Home Chapel.
