Ruth Helen (Smith) Matheson

July 7, 1927 — May 2, 2020

MATHESON, Ruth Helen (Smith) - July 7, 1927 – May 2, 2020 - It is with sadness that our family shares the news of Ruth’s passing of natural causes at Kingsway Lodge, St. Marys, on  Saturday, May 2, 2020, in her 93rd year. She was the loving wife of the late Willis Matheson (1994) and mother of the late Jim (2017) (Beverley), Bill (Marlene), Dianne (Larry Bendall) and Beven (Janelle). Ruth loved her nine grandchildren Judy, Jamie (Eileen); Matthew, Michelle (Adam), Katherine (Chris); Nicole (Matt), Kendra, Joshua (Kelsey) and Amy and her nine great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Mackayla; Zachary, Charlotte, Samantha; Elise, Max; Grayson and Claire. Predeceased by her parents Jim and Marion (Munro) Smith and sister-in-law and husband, Marion and Charles Emmerson. Willis and Ruth lived on the farm for 43 years and then moved to Embro where they built a new home on Ruth’s parent’s property. After 25 years, Ruth made the decision to make a move to Woodstock where she resided until September 2019 when she took up residence in Kingsway Lodge, St Marys. Ruth was a lifetime member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Embro where she was an active member of the WMS and Ladies Aid as well as the church board. Ruth served her community as an active member of the Brooksdale Women’s Institute serving for over 50 + years on all levels of the FWIO. The Embro Fair Board was the recipient of Ruth’s talents as a quilter and knitter, organizer of the meal served for Dinner Theatre as well as serving as a director.  She always looked forward to gathering her family around the table for special occasions or simply having a visit when they ‘dropped by’.A special ‘thank you’ to all the staff at Kingway Lodge. Ruth enjoyed hearing about what you were up to and the bantering back and forth put her at ease. Your kindness and caring will always be remembered. Cremation has taken place with a private family burial at North Embro Cemetery. A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Knox Presbyterian Church in Embro would be greatly appreciated and may be arranged through Brock & Visser Funeral Home, Woodstock (519-539-0004) or online at www.brockandvisser.com
