HUGHES, Ross Evan 

Ross passed away surrounded by his loving family at Sakura House Hospice on January 3rd, 2025, at the age of 92. Beloved husband of Leta (nee Thomas) for 66 years. Loving father of Cathy Piper, June (Chris) Vine and Ruth Desmarais (Dan Gunn). Much loved grandfather of Andrew (Nicole), Mathew (Brittni), Scott (Tanya), Ben, Sol (Jamie) and Nathan. Proud great-grandfather of Ethan, Lillie, Avelynn, Brooklynn and Samuel. Cherished brother of Patricia Teeter, Grant (Karen) and Allan (Joie). Ross was predeceased by his parents Hugh and Pearl as well as his sister Nina Brown and her husband Harry. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Ross was a dedicated employee for over 32 years at Canada Cement. He was also an active member of Central United Church, where he was instrumental in developing the "Pies R Us" program. This successful project moved with him to Dundas Street United Church. Ross was a passionate woodworker, but above all else he loved spending time with his family.

A special thank you to the supportive staff at Oxford Gardens, to the PSW's who cared for him, and to Dr. Orchard, Wendy and the palliative team. The family will also be forever grateful for the compassion and care he received at Sakura House. 

Visitation will be held at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Avenue, Woodstock, (519-539-0004), on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Dundas Street United Church, 285 Dundas Street, Woodstock at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ross can be made to VON Sakura House or to Dundas Street United Church.
