Ronald "Ron" Ypma, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025, in Woodstock, Ontario, where he was born on June 23, 1963. He was widely known by his nickname, Ronnie, and held a special place in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ron was a man of many passions and talents. He was quiet yet deeply caring, and a Godly anchor for his family. His competitive spirit shone brightly in his athletic pursuits, which began in his youth with baseball and transitioned into a lifelong engagement with sports, including Men's Masters soccer and a dedication to home fitness. His achievements were numerous, with many trophies and medals adorning his collections, but it was his time wrestling in high school that he excelled the most. Ron's commitment to coaching his children and helping them develop their skills underscored his devotion to family and the joy he found in their successes.
Family was central to Ron's life. He cherished countless memories, including unforgettable family camps at Fair Havens, road trips to Graceland, an engaging Laser Tag session, and numerous joyful beach days. These moments encapsulated his love for bringing everyone together, creating bonds that would endure far beyond individual experiences.
A passionate artist, Ron discovered a new avenue of expression through watercolor painting after the tragic loss of his daughter, Valery. His artistic inclinations led him to capture the beauty of God's creation, which reflected his appreciation for the world around him and his desire to express his love for God his Creator.
At the core of Ron's existence was his unshakeable faith in Jesus Christ, which was the foundation of not only his life but also his interactions with those around him. His spiritual convictions remained steadfast right to the end of his earthly journey, offering comfort and guidance to his family and friends.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Shelley, and their children: Kira (AJ), Valery (2021), Veronica, Keeghan, Owen, Yme, and Siebren. He was a proud Pake to Klara, Daphney, and Aquila. He leaves behind siblings Bonnie (Rob) and Larry (Sharon), as well as a sister-in-law, Myra, and mother-in-law, Doreen McReynolds. He was surrounded by many family members and friends whose lives he touched with his warmth and kindness.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ethel Ypma; siblings Jack and Barbara; and father-in-law Edwin McReynolds. His legacy of love, faith, and passion will continue to inspire those who knew him, a testament to a life well-lived and the profound impact he had on all who were fortunate enough to call him a friend or family member.
