GOODBUN, Robert Douglas - It is with much regret and deep sorrow that the family of R. Douglas Goodbun announce his passing on Wednesday, January 26th, 2022. He passed at VON Sakura House with his family beside him. Doug was born in Russell, Manitoba on June 14, 1936, the eldest child of John and Catharine. He took all of his grade schooling in Roblin, Manitoba. While in grade school, he met a young girl named Sylvia Sanders. This relationship blossomed into a beautiful marriage of over 60 years. She is the rock of the family and his love forever. From this marriage came Lisa Anderson (Garry), Robert (Natasha) and John (Jill). He was very proud of them all. Doug was the grandfather of six: Graham (Samantha), Katie (Tyler), Ally, Ben, Jacob and Emma and great-grandfather of Walter and William. He was very proud of his grandchildren and what they have accomplished so far in their lives. Doug has extended family across Canada including his brother Bill (Marlene) in Panoka, Alberta; his sister Diane (Dale) in Steinbeck, Manitoba; and his brother-in-law Don (Marj) in Kelowna.
Doug graduated from the University of Manitoba with a pharmacy degree in 1958. He went back to school in 1965 and graduated again with a degree in Hospital Administration from the University of Toronto. In 1969, Doug accepted the position of Administrator at the Brockville Psychiatric Hospital. He was transferred to Woodstock in September of 1972. The family lived in London for 2 years before moving to Woodstock. Doug spent the next 14 years as Administrator of the Oxford Regional Centre. He left the government services in 1992 after completing various projects for the Ontario Ministry of Health. Doug went back to being a pharmacist again and spent 15 years as a pharmacist at the Springbank Plaza.
As a family and then just with Sylvia, they travelled extensively. Doug and Sylvia went to Florida each winter for 20 years and made many new friends, all of whom enriched their lives. Their friendships will be forever cherished. Doug and Sylvia visited every province in Canada and every state but one. They also travelled throughout Europe on river cruises. What wonderful memories. Doug deeply cherished all the friendships he made over the years. Without these friends, life would have been good but a pretty dull experience. Instead, with these friends and family, it has been a fabulous journey. Thanks to all of these great people.
Friends are invited to meet with the family at St. David’s United Church, 190 Springbank Ave, Woodstock on Monday, January 31st, 2022, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm, where the service will be held at 2:00 pm.
