Known affectionately as Bob to his family and friends, and “Geek" to his “Kids" Sheri-Lyn and Donnie, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2024, at Sakura House supported by his people who walked with him on his Life's Journey until the very end at the age of 84 in his hometown of Woodstock, the very place where his story began one stormy wintery day on April 8, 1939.
Bob's love story with his beloved wife, Joan, began over 60 years ago with a chance encounter at a gas station. It was the cornerstone of a family that flourished with joy, including his treasured daughter, Sheri-Lyn, and his respected son-in-law, Donnie. His sister, Eleanor, along with her partner, Gerry, also held a special place in his heart.
Professionally, Bob enjoyed over 20 years in a factory environment at Fisher Controls, and then in his later years of employment, Bob was a well-respected and integral part of the Zehrs community. His colleagues not only found a reliable co-worker in Bob but also a genuine friend.
Bob's personal interests were as rich and varied as the life he led. Hockey both Junior C and NHL were one of his favourite things to watch on TV, especially when he and Donnie could watch it together. He also enjoyed watching the Daytona 500 with Donnie. Bob had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature, particularly trees, and his hands skillfully crafted wood into works of art and utility. A true car enthusiast, his eyes would light up at the sight of a 1956 Ford 150, a vehicle that captured his imagination and spoke to his love for classic design. The color blue was a thread that ran through many of Bob's favorite things, reflecting the depth and tranquility of his character and his eyes.
Bob Bowker's legacy is one of love, craftsmanship, and a passion for the simple joys in life, like camping, going to the lake, picnics, and an assortment of road trips leading to many fun adventures. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, kind heart, sense of humour, and the indelible mark he left on the lives of those who knew him.
Special thank you to The Cancer Clinic at LHS, Dr Regis Palliative Care, and St Elizabeth’s nurse, Kizzy who were all there with Bob and his Family from the beginning and offered nothing but compassion and support.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave, Woodstock (519-539-0004) on Sunday, February 11, 2024 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
