ROBINSON, Robert Harry "Robby"- At VON-Sakura House on July 1st, 2015, peacefully after a very courageous battle with cancer. Survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Patricia "Pat" (nee Geiling), his son Rob (Bev), his daughter Angela (Tom) Giuffra, and loving grandsons, Mitchell and Matthew Robinson and Thomas Giuffra. Also survived by his sister Dorothy Poole, his brother-in-law Gary (Rose Marie) Geiling as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Florence Robinson and his sister Donna (Frank) Beemer. Robby loved the simple things in life; his family, and his grandchildren, fishing, and gardening. He loved sports, hockey and baseball and was an avid curler in his retirement years. He was a member of the Woodstock Curling Club and the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a former employee of Timberjack in Woodstock. His greatest passion was hockey, and in his youth at the age of 16 he was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings. In 1956 he played for the Hamilton Tiger Cubs (A Club), as well as other A Teams; Guelph Biltmores, Three Rivers Quebec, Vancouver Canucks, and Saskatoon. His hockey travels in Eastern Professional Hockey League took him to Charlotte, N.C., Long Island, NY and eventually ended up in Woodstock, where he played for the Woodstock Athletics and Alcans in 1963. That year the Athletics made it to the Allan Cup Finals in Winnipeg. Robby retired from competitive hockey in 1968, giving back by coaching hockey for the Woodstock Minor Hockey Association and also for the Woodstock Minor Baseball Association. In between hockey seasons he played softball for the Woodstock Industrial Softball League, and baseball for Dual Temp. Robby will be remembered by his friends who came to know him at hockey rinks and ball diamonds around Ontario. The Family is hosting a celebration of his life at the Sally Creek Bistro, 190 Fairway Road, Woodstock, on Saturday July 11th, 2015 from 2:00pm to 4:30pm.
