Robert Llewellyn Lester, affectionately known as Bob to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024, at University Hospital in London. Born on November 10, 1941, in St. Thomas, Bob's life was marked by dedication to his career as an elementary school principal, his love for his family, and his passion for woodworking.
Bob was the son of Fred and Marguerite Lester and the elder brother of Hugh Lester, all of whom predeceased him. His life was enriched when he met his beloved wife, Pat Martyn, and married her in 1964. Together, Bob and Pat created a legacy of love that grew with the arrival of their children, Sandra Leigh Lester and Michael Llewellyn Lester, and further blossomed with the arrival of their beloved grandson, Jasper David Stronghill. Bob leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, in-laws and extended family.
For 35 years, Bob served as an educator in Oxford County, where he was a respected and much-loved principal. His commitment to his role and his ability to connect with students and colleagues left an indelible mark on the community. Bob’s leadership extended beyond the classroom through his contributions with the Lion’s Club and other community organizations.
Outside of his professional life, Bob was a man of many interests. His happy place was in the wood shop, crafting birdhouses. He shared his father's love for golf, relishing the camaraderie and challenge it provided. Depending on the season, there was either a Toronto Blue Jays game or a Toronto Maple Leafs game playing on the television or radio wherever he went. His loyalty as a fan was as steadfast as his love for his family.
Bob was well-loved by his friends on the golf course, at the coffee shop, and at social events with family and friends. Though he was quite reserved at home, he was always the person to turn to whenever help was needed. His warm smile, teasing nature, and unwavering integrity will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, patience, and kindness, serving as a role model to his family and community. Those left behind will continue to honor his memory by embodying his positive attitude and values in their daily lives.
As we say farewell to Bob, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of purpose, dedication, joy, and love. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
