CASSIDY, Richard “Dick” – It is with great sadness that the family announces Dick’s passing on January 13, 2023 after a long and courageous struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born in Montreal on June 11th, 1935, to parents Dr. Creighton Cassidy and Kathleen Cassidy (nee Morton). Cherished husband of Nancy J. Cassidy (nee Bradshaw). Survived and sadly missed by daughters Heidi, Erin (Jerry), and sons Rick and Matt (Sarah), grandchildren Charlie, Simon, George, Arthur, Declan and Maggie. Predeceased in death by his parents, sister Neola (brother in-law Doug), and brother Neil (sister in-law Merle).
Dick was known by all to be a true gentleman, always kind and caring of others. His first career was spent at United aircraft in Montreal as director of the engineering computer team. At age 35 he decided to go back to McGill University to pursue a career in dentistry. He eventually bought a practice In Woodstock. Dick was a devoted family man, who loved spending weekends and holidays having fun with his wife and four children. He was a lifelong learner, and nothing gave him more joy than discovering a new topic to delve into and explore. He became a self-taught student in many areas, including his garden pond and fish, hummingbirds, chess, curling and geocaching. A great lover of all types of puzzles, he would often challenge the family with quests and quizzes. He was always right up to date on the latest in computers, and was never more in his element than when using those skills to help his children and grandchildren with their various projects. Dick loved a bon mot, and delighted in using his wit and wordplay, whether when sitting around the dinner table, or giving one of his infamous speeches.
