Rachel Whitehead (nee Fisher) went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 7, 2003 in Woodstock, Ontario. She was born on December 9, 1911 to William and Elizabeth Fisher in New Liskeard, Ontario. After her father''s death when she was four, the family moved to the Woodstock area where Rachel attended school. In 1929 Rae married Stanton William Whitehead, and after his service in the RCAF they joined the staff of the Sudan Interior Mission, spending the next 20 years as house parents for children whose parents were in Africa, India and South America. Known as Auntie Rae to hundreds of children she was a fun-loving and hard-working mother to children while their parents were out of the country for four years at a time. She was a committed Christian whose deep goal in life was to be of service to Christ. In her last years she lived at Woodingford Lodge where she leaves many friends. She is predeceased by her sisters Betty Wood and Florence Young and her brother Bill Fisher. Beloved mother and grandmother, she leaves two sons, Harold and wife Ruth of San Diego and Jim and his wife Eeva of Thornbury. Also left are 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces from Woodstock and other areas. Friends may call at the R.D.Longworth Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock (539-0004) on Wednesday 7-9 pm where the funeral service will be held in the chapel Thursday at 1:30 pm with Rev. Alex McCombie officiating. Interment in the Hillview Cemetery. Contributions to the Sudan Interior Missions would be appreciated.
