Rachel Joan Irwin-Budd, known affectionately as “Ray”, passed away suddenly, at home in Woodstock, from a broken heart, on July 19, 2024, at the age of 66.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Rachel was predeceased by Floyd, her husband of 16 years, who died just two weeks prior to her own passing. She leaves a legacy of love and good memories with her sons: Dwayne, Jason, and Nathan Anderson; and her step-daughters Shona and Heather; her grandchildren: Mariah and Seth Anderson, Wyatt Lovell, and angel Leah. They will miss her laugh, her smile, and her gentle guidance.
Rachel was the chosen daughter of Marjorie and the late William C.E. Irwin, joining the family when she was 12. She is survived by her Irwin siblings: Frances (Ron), Bill (Carrie), Chris (Glennys), and her Burley siblings: Edith, Paul, Pauline, Ruth, Doug, Bruce, Ross, Eddie, and Mary. She was a caring Aunt to her many nephews and nieces, decorating special birthday cakes and GIANT cards, bringing crafts – often colouring - to do together, and giving them the gift of her time and attention. Rachel was also a good friend, remaining in touch with girlfriends who connected as teenagers.
Rachel’s happiest moments were the times spent with family, whether kibbitzing round the kitchen table or round a campfire. Her spunk and zest for life earned her the nickname “Rowdy”. Her spirit shone especially brightly during karaoke nights, where she gave voice to feelings through song.
Rachel's sons invite family and friends to gather on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024, for grieving together, and remembering, from 2-4 pm at Brock and Visser Funeral Home (845 Devonshire Ave.) in Woodstock.
If you so desire, donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association would be appreciated.
