Phlip Albert Lynn Baker (b. March 22nd, 1956) also known by “Daaaaaad!!!”, Mr. Fixit, Phip, Phippy, My Sweet Baboo or as he tried to institute (to his wife and daughters) but never worked “Mr. Baker Sir”, passed in his 68th year peacefully on September 10th at Woodstock General Hospital with his (as he liked to say to her even though she was his only) favourite wife by his side. Philip and Linda met when they were in first year at Waterloo University, when they were 19. At the time Phil needed some matches to light his pipe and Linda was there to light his fire (a match made in heaven). Philip was also a loving father to two daughters, Adrianna Ruby Helen Baker “Adi” and Alexandra Amber Lynn Baker “Ali” who kept him on his toes with their award winning ability to break things he then needed to fix, made him laugh, shared his love of movies and his witty sense of humour.
Philip was born and raised in Woodstock, Ontario, he graduated from Huron Park High School in 1975 and graduated in 1980 from University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Civil Engineer). Philip spent his professional career as a Civil Engineer at Baker & Benedict Land Surveyors and Engineers, formerly named Springbank Consulting Engineers LTD where he worked with his father who was a Land Surveyor. Having been retired for over a decade, he still brought his engineer’s brain to projects around his and Linda’s home. He could often be found in the front room of the house (his “office”) researching projects on his iPad and calculating measurements in a notebook.
Philip was diagnosed with AMML at the end of October 2023, completed chemotherapy treatment, achieved remission and in March 2024 received a bone marrow transplant that was successful. As complications during his recovery started to occur Philip took on all that was required of him valiantly as his team at London Health Science - Victoria Hospital and Woodstock General Hospital threw all their knowledge and skills at every problem that came up to give him the best possible outcome.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Predeceased by his loving parents William Albert Baker and Norma Anna Marie Baker (nee Roegele), survived by his wife of 42 years Linda Anne Baker (nee Fyffe), daughters Adrianna Baker (Matthew Donahue) of Toronto and Alexandra Baker of Woodstock, and his older brother Greg Baker (Anne) of Michigan and his brother-in-law Wayne Fyffe of Thunder Bay. A private time of remembrance will be held by family and friends. Cremation has taken place. Interment at a later date in the Christ Church Lakeside Cemetery.
To Philip's team at London Health Science - Victoria Hospital and Woodstock General Hospital we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your knowledge, curiosity and dedication you gave to Philip. We also want to thank all hospital staff who feed, clean, volunteer and contribute to the everyday running of a Hospital, we so appreciated the small chats while getting some tea and something to eat. And to Philip's Oncologist Dr. Uday Deotare, you brought brilliance, compassion and the heart of a mentor to the care of Philip, the respect you two shared for one another will always be treasured.
