Born May 18th, 1946 in London, Ontario to the late Dr. Charles and Joan (Stevens) Gillen. He grew up in St. Catharines, attended Brock University and after working stints in Toronto and Thunder Bay, ended up in Woodstock. Paul worked in new product development and marketing throughout his career; first in packaging, then vintner, mass transit vehicles and systems and finally retiring after 30 years from the Holland family, working with agricultural and turf grass equipment. He worked part time on the greens staff at Craigowan Golf and Country Club.
His volunteerism was past president of the Norwich and District Chamber of Commerce; past president Ontario Farm Equipment Manufacturers Association; past commodore Cliffside Yacht Club; past secretary Port Dover Yacht Club; past president and board member Sports Turf Association; a member of Craigowan Golf Club; and board member of his condominium association
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Susan (Newell); his sister, Margaret (Dave); his daughter, Cherie-Lynne Scott (Pete) and his son, Sean (Lorie). He was predeceased only 4 months ago by his brother, David (Heidi). He was also a grandfather and great grandfather.
Paul and Susan spent much of their spare time boating the Great Lakes; RVing in their motor homes; travelling the world; and golfing. They created many long lasting friendships wherever they went and cherish the memories made with those folks.
Many thanks to People Care Nursing Home in Tavistock where he spent his last two months; Woodstock Hospital and Dr. George; the London Regional Cancer Centre; London Victoria Hospital; and London University Hospital for their care of Paul over the past three years.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held in May and information will be forthcoming. Should you wish to donate in Paul's memory please consider animal shelters and rescue.
"May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
may God hold you in the hollow of His hand."
