Michael James Walters

September 28, 1976 - May 8, 2021

Mike Walters of Centreville, ON and raised in Glencoe, ON passed peacefully at the age of 44. He won his 3.5 year long battle against ALS. He is no longer a prisoner of his own body and can ride mini bikes, have a beer and joke with that loud signature laugh again.

Left missing their best friend are his girls; his loving wife/Roo of 20 years Bethany Walters (LeSauvage) and daughter/Pod Brooklyn Walters. Cherished son of William and Judith Walters of Glencoe and dorky brother of Janet Walters of Toronto, ON.  Son in law of Vonda Brakeman and the late Alfred LeSauvage. Loved brother in law of Shawna and Chris Hurst and Carla LeSauvage. Fun uncle of Austin, Miles, Mason and Harper. Mike (the Man) will also be greatly missed by his “adopted” daughter Brooke Johnson and the Johnson/ Furtney family.

Pre-deceased by his grandparents William and Doris Walters and Clark and Thelma Farrow. Also pre-deceased by Bethanys grandparents Harrison and Ella Brakeman. Missed by his many Aunts & Uncles and cousins in the MacKinnon, Wiley, Farrow and Brakeman families.

Mike will be sorely missed by NASG. For Over 16+ years Mike dedicated his skills as a Tool & Die Maker and onto his final position as a Tooling Engineer and Designer. Mike was humbled and honoured by the ongoing friendship and support from the plants throughout his journey. Mike also served on the Glencoe Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

There are not enough words to express our appreciation of his care team, neurologist Dr. Shoesmith, Denise and the UH ALS Clinic team, the NPLC team and the amazing Pharmasave crew. Jenny and Stacey of CBI, SE Health visiting nurses, Special appreciation to Dr Sondhi and the palliative care team, including Oxford EMS for your compassionate, respectable and light hearted approach. Our angels on earth; Kerrie, Dawn and the Cheshire Oxford team, along with Richelle and the Care Partners crew. Never forgetting our Angela Poppins. The care given to Mike allowed him to maintain his dignity and strong will as long as possible and for that we will be forever grateful.

Mike was one of a kind and was a true warrior against ALS. He faced his journey with bravery, humour, inspirational strength and love. Mike was the most happy sharing and offering his skills to anyone that needed them. He loved to teach and encourage others and ALS didn’t take that away. Anything that had a motor was his passion along with bringing new life to older prized possessions. A true metal craftsman, he would spend countless hours creating and rebuilding in his shop with his buddy Brooklyn by his side. He continued to use his skills on his 3D printer creating useful tools to counteract his physical losses and gifts and trinkets for friends and family.

Thank you will never be enough to all of our Walters Warriors for ALS. Your unending support, friendship and commitment to keeping Mike smiling will never be forgotten. “Life would be tragic if it weren’t funny” Stephen Hawking.
