Melville R. Sutherland

SUTHERLAND- Peacefully at his residence on Thursday January 17, 2008. Melville (Mel) R. Sutherland of Winniett Street Woodstock in his 97th year. Beloved husband of the late Doris (Anderson) Sutherland and the late Mildred (Paquette)(Gill) Sutherland. Dear father of Danny and Clarence both of Woodstock. Step-father of Jean Davis of Tillsonburg, Robert Paquette of Vancouver, Gerard Paquette and Gary Paquette both of Florida. Loved grandfather of Al Sutherland; Rob and Kenny Briggs; Tina White, Natasha Sutherland and Chad Sutherland; Kurt Sutherland and Karen Hannem; Gary Jr., Randy, Danielle and Nicky Paquette as well as many great grandchildren. Father-in-law of John Briggs of Scarborough, and Darlene Sutherland of London. Predeceased by his son Robert and Donald, daughter Barbara Briggs, grandchildren Dave and Joanne and one great granddaughter, sisters Evelyn and Bernice, brothers; Clarence, Ernest, Earl and by his step-son Bernard Paquette. Mel was employed with Kirsch Canada retiring as Plant Superintendent after 48 years, served during WW II with the R.C.A. Service Corps. as a Sargent, was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #55 Woodstock as well as being the oldest member of the Woodstock Loyal Order of the Moose Branch# 1141. Friends may call at the Longworth Funeral Home 845 Devonshire Ave. Woodstock 519-539-0004 Sunday 2-4 pm where the complete funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00 am with Rev. Stephen Hershey officiating. Interment later Hillview Cemetery. Contributions to the Woodstock General Hospital Building Fund or the VON Sakura House would be appreciated.
