Maurice Wolfenden Lister

March 27, 1914 — June 27, 2003

Maurice Wolfenden Lister, Phd. Professor Emeritus University of Toronto, Inorganic Chemistry Maurice Lister 89, predeceased by his wife, Landscape Architect Lois Lister and by his daughter Ruth Lister. Survived by his children Peter Lister and his wife Marg Peach and their children, Natalie McHaffie and her partner Dave Whitton and her children, Frances Lister and her husband Rainer Kappei, Victoria Lister Carley and her husband John Carley and their children, and by his sisters Dr. Una Lister and Dr. Ursula Lister in England and granddaughter Cady Lister and her children in Alaska. Muarice Lister was born in England and graduated from Oxford and Harvard before coming to Canada tojoin a military research team at Chalk River during WW II. While at Oxford, he was an elite athlete and one of the fastest runners in England. In the early 1950's he began his long career at the University of Toronto where he particularly enjoyed teaching first year, graduate and pre-med students. His interest in education went beyond the university. He was a member of the Toronto Board of Education for 10 years including several years as Chairman of the Board. He was also well known as an almost unbeatable chess player and member of the Toronto Chess Club. The family will be receiving friends and colleagues who would like to join them for a remembrance of his life at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159Eglinton Avenue West (2 stoplights west of Yonge St.) Tuesday July 8, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
