Mary passed away suddenly on November 30, 2023, at the age of 74, at Woodstock Hospital . She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Mary's life was a testament to the power of love and commitment. She was the beloved wife of Robert (Bob) Leis for 55 wonderful years, a partnership that stood as a shining example of devotion and mutual respect. Together, they built a family founded on the principles of kindness and support. She was the loving mother of Mike (Sharon) Leis and Jennifer Leis (Mark Sands), and a doting Grandma to Matthew, Taylor, Esmae, and Abel.
Her siblings, Lea, Rick, David, and her step-siblings Ann, Stephen, and Tom, will fondly remember Mary's warmth and compassion. She was preceded in death by her sister Joan and her parents, Phyllis and Mike Knott and Bev Porter. Her memory will also be treasured by her many nieces and nephews.
Mary's professional life was marked by her tenure as a dedicated Bell Telephone operator, a role she performed with grace and efficiency until her retirement. However, she often shared that her greatest accomplishment and joy were found in raising her children, nurturing them with love, and instilling in them the values that she held so dear.
A devout member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Mary's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. She sang in the church choir, where her beautiful singing voice was a source of inspiration and comfort to the congregation. Her faith was not just a part of her Sunday routine but woven into the fabric of her daily life, guiding her actions and interactions with everyone she met.
Mary's interests were as rich and varied as her character. She was an avid lover of the outdoors, with camping and fishing among her favorite pastimes, along with their time spent on the boat. Mary could often be found immersed in a good book, always eager to explore new worlds and ideas through the pages.
Those who knew Mary will remember her as the epitome of loving and kind. Her faith-filled spirit shone brightly, guiding her through life's challenges and triumphs. She approached every day with a heart full of grace and a smile that could light up a room. Her presence was a comfort, her laughter a melody, and her guidance a treasure that will be deeply missed.
