Turkington, Marlene Joyce (nee Moyer) - Marlene passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on November 14, 2021, in her 76th year. Beloved wife of David (married 50 years). Loving mother of Krista (Paul) Versteeg. Sadly missed by grandchildren Katelyn and Mark. Predeceased by parents Robert and Eileen (nee Kettle) Moyer and brother Lloyd. Marlene will be remembered for her love, kindness, and for her passion for learning, teaching and advocacy for libraries. She was a gentle leader who wanted to lift others up and support everyone. For 42 years, Marlene was a teacher and teacher-librarian with Oxford County and Thames Valley District School Boards. She taught at various schools-elementary and secondary- in Oxford county. Marlene enjoyed her leadership roles at L.R.C. and at the TVDSB office - ending her career in the role of Learning Coordinator-Library and Media Services. In her professional career Marlene organized several successful book fairs, workshops, vendor sales and P. A. days. Marlene was also a private consultant and enjoyed working with GoodMinds. Through various organizations - OLA, OSLA, TALCO and CASL, she advocated for libraries by encouraging the purchase of memberships, organizing bus trips to conferences, writing articles and guest editing some of their publications. Marlene shared her wisdom and passion for libraries in the community by being on the board of the Woodstock Public Library for 12 years -6 of those years was chair. Recently Marlene volunteered with Friends of the Woodstock Public Library (chair and former chair). Woodstock Little Theatre once was an interest to her where she volunteered in many jobs behind the scenes to acting in a play and watching several productions. Marlene was a librarian at her Church’s library for over 30 years. Her grandchildren meant the world to her and brought her many years of joy and happy memories. Marlene also cherished and valued every friendship throughout her life. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Vu and the exceptional care he provided her for many years. Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral but a Celebration of Life will take place in the Spring at a future date to be determined. A private family and close friends graveside service will be held in the Spring. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Woodstock Public Library or Wellington Animal Hospital (animal rescue) and can be arranged through the Brock and Visser Funeral Home (519-539-0004).
