WEBB- With thanksgiving for a good and full life; her loving and admiring family announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Marjorie Wilma Jean Webb (nee Lock) on Thursday February 9th, 2006 in Barrie. Marjorie was born May 19th, 1916; the only daughter of Jean and Nathan Lock on the family farm on the 16th Line of East Zorra. Following a wonderful childhood and schooling at SS#9 East Zorra and W.C.I.; Marjorie began her career as a secretary at several local businesses including the Woodstock Sentinel Review. In 1942, Marjorie married the love of her life, J. Gordon C. Webb of Woodstock, who was with the Y.M.C.A. War Services during the Second World War. Marjorie on her own, journeyed by train and ferry to join Gordon on the Queen Charlotte Islands B.C. at the R.C.A.F. station at Clifford Bay. By 1944, they arrived back in Woodstock to establish their family home. Marjorie loved nature, her church and community. She committed generously with her time throughout her life. She taught us all by her examples of her care and commitment. Marjorie's many friends and acquaintances will know the enthusiasm and dedication she shared with all. Over the years Marjorie contributed to Knox Presbyterian Church, the I.O.D.E., Woodstock Field Naturalists, Woodstock Horticultural Society, the Fireside Club, Woodstock Hospital Auxiliary, the Probus Club and her long standing Girls Club. An excellent athlete throughout her life, Marjorie pursued track and field and basketball in her early years and was always an avid hiker. Marjorie was a member of Craigowan Golf and Country Club and a member and past president of the Woodstock Curling Club. Most notably, she was a team member of the Ontario Ladies Senior Champions in 1980. Above all else, Marjorie was devoted to her family. Her love, strength, care and guiding light is an inspiration in all our lives. Marjorie will be greatly missed and forever loved by her four daughters- her "Little Women"- and their families; Jane and Gerry, Mary, Sandra and William, Nancy and Glen, nine dear grandchildren Andy, Matt, Suzie, Laura, Lisa, Ann, Jeremy, Adam, Colin and fifteen great grandchildren as well as Edith Stevenson, sister-in-law. Marjorie was predeceased by her beloved husband Gordon (1991), her loving parents Jean and Nathan Lock and dear brother Leonard. Marjorie's family would like to thank her many friends, her caregivers and staff at Park Place Retirement Centre, Woodstock and Woods Park Care Centre, Barrie for their support and loving care. At Marjorie's request, cremation has occurred. Visitation will take place at the R. D. Longworth Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., (519) 539-0004 on Friday February 17th from 3-5:30 pm and Saturday February 18th from 1-1:45 pm at Knox Presbyterian Church, Woodstock, followed by a service of Celebration and Thanksgiving for Marjorie's life at 2:00 pm. Reception following. Interment later in the Innerkip Cemetery. The family would appreciate memorial donations be made to Knox Presbyterian Church, the Federation of Ontario Naturalists, and Toronto Sick Kids. Sunsets, autumn maple leaves, a delicate wild flower on the Bruce, the call of a meadow lark, a butterfly on the wing, the smell of new mown hay, the ripple of a brook, and the joy of a cutter ride were special moments in Marjorie's life.
