Sutherland, Marjorie Eleanor - (August 23, 1931 - April 1, 2021) - Marjorie (nee Wright) Sutherland completed her journey in life peacefully at Chester Village Long Term Care Facility in Toronto on April 1, 2021. She was 89. She was the loving wife to the late Gordon Alexander Sutherland (2015) and mother to David Sutherland and Anne (nee Sutherland) Queen. She was the proud grandmother to Sarah Queen.

Marjorie was born in Ingersoll, and was raised in Beachville.  She was very active in Beachville as a Sunday school teacher for the Beachville United Church.  Over the years Marjorie worked as a sales clerk for department stores such as White’s and Eaton’s.  It was working at Eaton’s,  Marjorie met the love of her life, Gordon Sutherland.  They settled in Woodstock and raised their two children, David and Anne in a small bungalow on Willowgrove Crescent.

Once the children were school age, Marjorie went back to work.  This time at Towers department store in the marking room department.  She enjoyed her time there, especially the friends she made.  Marjorie was also an active member of St. David’s United Church. Some of her favourite hobbies were rug hooking and hiking.  She was a member of the Oxford Harvest Hookers, a rug hooking group.  Marjorie enjoyed road trips to go hiking with Gordon along the Bruce Trail, of which they were members.
Autumn was their favourite season, and they would often take a road trip to find the best fall colours.

Marjorie was a wonderful cook and baker.  She was known for hosting Christmas gatherings with the extended family members of the Sutherland’s, the Wright’s, neighbors and friends.

Marjorie had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.  She had a wide circle of friends.  In her later years at Chester Village, she was always friendly and kind to others.

A memorial service to celebrate Marjorie's life will be held at a later date, with interment in the Anglican Cemetery. Cremation has taken place.  If desired, memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Bruce Trail Association would be appreciated and may be arranged through the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, Woodstock, 519-539-0004.

A special thanks to the dedicated and compassionate staff at Chester Village. Your care and support will never be forgotten.

Expressions of love and sympathy may be placed and viewed online at www.brockandvisser.com.
