Maria Deboer

September 13, 1950 — July 22, 2023

Maria deBoer, known affectionately as Marina to those who loved her, passed away peacefully on the 22nd of July 2023, at the venerable age of 72, at the Alexandra Hospital in Ingersoll, Ontario.

Her life was a testament to her adventurous spirit, as evidenced by her travels to far-flung destinations such as Alaska, Hawaii, and her birthplace, the Netherlands. Her journeys were not just physical, but spiritual as well, as she was a woman of deep faith. She found joy in simple pleasures, never missing a birthday or anniversary, always ensuring those she cared for felt special and loved. She was the founder of the Ingersoll Chapter of Big Sisters and a fervent fan of the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley. Her spirit was as lively and captivating as his music.

She was a pillar of support to her beloved family, a fiercely independent soul, the family historian, a spit fire with a saucy sense of humour. She never uttered a single complaint or had a bad word about anyone, ever. Her siblings, John deBoer, (Bernadette), Jim deBoer (Sally Gustin), Gretchen deBoer (Richard Larivière), Ted deBoer (Deanna Barry), Katherine deBoer (Patrick Yeoman), Madonna Munro (Ron), Peter deBoer (Christine), and Steven deBoer (Katherine) and her many beloved nieces and nephews, will remember her fondly for her unwavering loyalty and steadfast devotion. Predeceased by her parents Jake and Margaret deBoer.

In the words of Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." These words perfectly encapsulate the life of Marina. Her life was not marked by grand gestures, but by countless small acts of love that touched the hearts of everyone she met. Whether it was a kind word to a stranger, a comforting hug to a friend in need, or the joy she brought to her family, Marina’s life was a testament to the power of love and kindness. To her, family was everything.

Let us remember Marina not with sorrow, but with gratitude for the love and joy she brought into our lives. May her soul rest in peace. Her loss will be deeply felt by all who knew her.
