Margaret Thomson, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025, in Ingersoll, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 12, 1933, in Denny, Scotland, and later made Canada her home when she immigrated in 1961.
Margaret's professional journey spanned several esteemed positions. She served as a Laboratory Technician at I.C.I in Grangemouth and continued her career as a Laboratory Technician for the Federal Department of Agriculture. Her talents were not limited to laboratory work; she also played a vital role as the Secretary/Treasurer (Bookkeeper) for her family's GM dealership, showcasing her diverse skills and dedication to her work.
Her educational background included five years of high school education in Scotland and her secondary training qualified her as a level 6 Laboratory Technician. Margaret continued upgrading with further courses at the University of Western Ontario. Margaret held a great appreciation for learning and continued to engage with education in her retirement through her active participation in Learning Unlimited and an organization in Ayr that offered seminars about Scottish culture.
Margaret's personality shone brightly through her great sense of humour and her enjoyment of sarcasm. She was known for her caring nature, which extended to all those around her. Her passions were many, but her love for singing was paramount. As an active member of the music community in Woodstock, Margaret poured her heart into singing, participating in various local events including the Woodstock Rotary Festival of Music while winning three rose bowls for her exceptional singing talents. She was also proud to have sung operas with top opera singers, opening ceremonies at the Embro Highland Games and performed with the Fanshawe Choir in Woodstock. Her performance in the Messiah at the London Centennial Hall was one of her proudest accomplishments. In addition to her musical pursuits, Margaret found great joy in gardening, cherishing the beauty of flowers and the solace they provided.
Margaret will be deeply missed by her sons, Angus (Christine), Alan (Shauna), and Tom (Jill), along with her beloved grandchildren, Duncan, Keegan, Carlan, Alan Jr., Meghan, Sarah, Jacklyn, and Lauren. She was predeceased by her husband, Tom Thomson, whom she cherished dearly.
