Margaret Jane Senyck (Kent) b. May 4, 1937 in Woodstock is predeceased by her beloved husband Nicholas Senyck in 1992, and by her parents Maurice Kent and Margaret Whitelaw. Survived by her daughters Katharine Senyck of Waterloo, and Susan (Randall) McArthur of Brampton. Grandsons Sam and Kevin McArthur, brother James Kent (Joan) of Woodstock, cousins Mary (Howard) Pye and Phyllis (Donald) Stoddard, and nieces and nephews. Margaret moved to Tillsonburg in 1945 and graduated from Tillsonburg High School, Victoria Hospital School of Nursing class of ’59, Western University School of Nursing, and in her 50’s, Waterloo University with a BA she didn’t need but wanted to study. A life-long book-aholic, she enjoyed reading murder mysteries, English Lit, and Canadian History. She worked as a public health nurse a short time in Windsor where she met her husband, then returned to clinical nursing. Following her school principal husband to Wallaceburg, she worked part time at Wallaceburg Sydenham Hospital, retiring in her 50’s to volunteer at Wallaceburg Museum for many years, as well as being an active member of Trinity United Church. After her husband’s death, she returned to Woodstock in 2010 where she volunteered at the Oxford Genealogy Society where she continued to research her family history and was delighted to discover her family’s UEL roots as well as her Scottish and English ancestors.
An award-winning quilt maker, more recently she combined knitting and watching the Blue Jays on TV. Assorted health problems interfered with her regular walking but gave time to her attempt to wear out her card at Woodstock Library. In 2016 she moved close to her daughter at Kitchener Highland Retirement Residence, followed by a move to The Village at University Gates.
At her request there will be no funeral. Cremation and burial of ashes will take place in a private ceremony at Woodstock Hillview cemetery beside her husband and surrounded by generations of Kent and Whitelaw relatives (ancestors). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Research Institute for Aging, The Wilfred Schlegel Hope Fund, or to a charity of your choice.
