Margaret Anne (Taylor) Flowers

May 21, 1914 — October 16, 2007

Flowers, Margaret Anne (nee Taylor) of Woodstock at the age of 93. The daughter of the late Hall Taylor and Ethna Thornton of Sardis, British Columbia. Margaret left her beloved childhood home on Galiano Island to travel across Canada to be educated in Caledonia, ON. During the Great Depression, she taught Grades 1-9 in one-room schools, marrying the late James S. Flowers (1978). Firmly committed to the importance of volunteer efforts within charitable organizations, Mrs. Flowers was a past president of the YWCA Board, a chairwoman of the Woodstock branch of the Save the Children Fund, a former president of the General United Church Women and a past secretary of the IODE of which she was a member for 43 years. She maintained an active 30-year plus membership in the volunteer committee of the Woodstock Art Gallery. The Saturday Afternoon Reading Club was a special joy. A member of Central United Church for over 60 years. Margaret's contributions were in the parlour and the kitchen and the pew. Her summation: All's right with my Soul. With her dear friend, Verona Webster, the world-traveling companions pursued their passion for bridge in various duplicate marathon and social bridge groups. Margaret's family was always her primary focus, the welfare of her children her foremost concern. Her warmth and listening skills will be deeply missed by her surviving four children and their families : Jim Flowers (wife Ruthann) of Woodstock, David (wife Valerie) of Winchester, Bruce and daughter Shelagh (husband Bill) Morrisson of London, ON. Margaret is survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Friends may call at the Longworth Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519-539-0004 on Thursday October 18, 2007 after 12:30 pm, where the funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday at 1:30 pm with Rev.
