Maisie Masters

MASTERS, Maisie (nee Dorward)- Maisie Craik (Dorward) Masters was born on February 19, 1921, in Windsor Ontario.  Maisie was the daughter of John and Ethel Dorward.

Very early in her life the Dorward’s moved to Woodstock and attended elementary school and Woodstock Collegiate Institute.

As WWII began Maisie joined the Women’s Army Corp and was first stationed at Woodstock at the Drives & Mechanics School. Maisie and her soon to be husband, Harry started dating as the war broke out and Harry was back home on leave from the Army when they got married on January 1, 1941.  After a very, very short honeymoon Harry was transferred to Halifax and then subsequently to England and then onto Holland in support of the Allied troops to recover Holland. And as Maisie said it was a very challenging time to say goodbye to your new husband not knowing whether he would be able to safely return to Woodstock.

Maisie continued her career with the WAC and was sent to Halifax and Yarmouth for advanced training and applied to go overseas.  Ironically, at the same time she was accepted to go overseas, she received word that Harry was coming home – so Mom quickly travelled back to Woodstock where Dad and Mom re-united.

After the War the “baby boom” came into play first with the birth of Carol Anne in 1948 and then the birth of John Wesley in 1951.

Just after the birth of John the family moved to Ingersoll and lived on Holcroft St, luckily the family didn’t stay too long and moved to their new home in Westfield Subdivision, “luckily” as the Holcroft St burned down in the mid 50’s.

Once Carol and John were in school Mom started working at the Ingersoll Hospital where she held several positions over 27 years including Director of Purchasing and House Cleaning.

Mom & Dad retired in the mid 1980’s and enjoyed another 30 years together, travelling south in the Winters, having an RV on Lake Erie, playing golf at the Ingersoll Golf and Country Club and spending time with their extended family.  Mom was an active member of the Easter Star, the Presbyterian Church, the Ingersoll Legion and the Navy Club.

Mom and Dad moved to Oxford Gardens in Woodstock, where Mom spent 10 wonderful years.  Dad passed away in 2011 and Mom later moved into Woodingford Lodge.

Mom had the opportunity to celebrate her 100th birthday in February 2021.

Maisie was the beloved wife of the late Harry Masters (2011). Loving mother to Carol (David) Tabor and John (Carol Larsen) Masters. Cherished grandmother to Graham Masters and Darryl (Shannon) Tabor, Kristin and Nicole Larsen. Great grandmother to Brody and Mackenzie Tabor. A private family service will be taking place with a burial in the spring at North Embro Cemetery.
