MABEL ALMA HAYCOCK
(nee Davey)
Passed away peacefully at Caressant Care on Tuesday July 4th, 2023, 8 days before her 101st birthday. Predeceased by her husband Maurice Haycock in 1980. Lovingly remembered by her daughter Donna Dickson (Monte), grandchildren Kristy Hons (Ian) and Jolynn Dickson, great grandchildren Charlotte and Isla. Mabel was the last surviving member of the Davey family; predeceased by brothers Calvin, Bert and Allan.
Mabel graduated from Ivan R. Sales hairdressing school in October 1959, and set up her own beauty parlour in the family home for many years. She also worked at Essex Wire in Ingersoll, ON, and for her daughter at the Shell Gas Bar in the Blandford Square Mall (now the Toyota Plant). Her most loved job was working at her daughter and son-in-law’s flower shop (Smith’s Flowers) where she was the ‘expert’ bowmaker. She loved flowers and critiqued all the designer’s arrangements. If you got her stamp of approval, it was a job well done. She worked at the flower shop until her retirement, and continued to come in to help every day until the store was sold in 2016. Mabel loved playing cards and never shied away from telling you she was about to beat you, even before the cards were dealt.
A celebration of life will be held on July 15th, 2023, from 2-5pm at the Elmhurst Inn, Ingersoll, ON
