Maartje Sinke

Maartje Sinke (née Hoogendam ) was born in Holland and married Jacobus Sinke, on January 24, 1951. Together, they embarked on a new journey, immigrating to Canada in 1951 where they built a beautiful life centered around faith, family, and love. She passed away at Sakura House, surrounded by love and secure in her faith, on Monday, February 17, 2025 at the age of 96.

Maartje was the proud mother of nine children, a cherished Oma to 29 grandchildren, and a beloved Great-Oma to 75 great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy was her family, and she took immense pride in the love and laughter that filled her home.

 She is survived by: her son Jasper Sinke and wife Wilma, their son Keith Sinke (Ellyn) and their children Lily, Phoebe, Eve and Sawyer, their daughters Tanya Duiker (Rennie) and their children Owen, Wesley, Joshua and Cody, and Danielle Bierman (Paul) and their children Vincent, Alana and Jolene; by her late son Jim Sinke and his daughter Lyndsay Brooks (Joel) and their children Jacob, Maddie and Deacon, and his daughter Amanda Osborne (Sheldon) and their children Gracie and Bella; by her son Rob Sinke and wife Val and their daughter Stephanie Brett (Scott) and their children Keaghan and Nolan, their daughter Ashley McCarthy (Chad) and their children Dez, Elliott, Ethnie and Evie, their daughter Scarlet Butterfield (Ray) and their children Everleigh, Esme and Eden, their son Adam Sinke (Adrienna) and their children Leon, Audie and Ezzie; by her son Fred Sinke and wife Cathy and their daughter Sarah Hesterman (Tim) and their children Aidan, Liam, Elanna and Allyson, their daughter Shellee Hamilton (Kyle) and their children Zoey, Brooklyn and Jaxson, their son Ryan Sinke (Ashley) and their children Kessel and Norah, their son Steven Sinke (Megan) and their children Hossanah, Ella, Zephaniah and Opal, their daughter Jolene Sero (Devon) and their children Cole, Gabe, Mattie, Noah and Josiah; by her daughter Ina Sanders and husband Dave and their daughter Katie Zylstra (Jeff) and their children Makayla, Ethan and Emma, their son Kevin Sanders (Jenn) and their children Grayson, Joshua, Morgan, Parker and Jackson, their daughter SheriLynn Sanders and her children Lauryn and Davis, their daughter Stacey Ditner (Luke) and their children Kenzie and Wyatt, their daughter Jenny Sanders (Ken McTavish) and their children Ava, Baileigh and Charlotte, their son Jaden Sanders (Sara) and their children Emelia and Bennett, and their son Isaac Sanders (Austin) and their child Harlyn; by her daughter Alyda Sinke; by her son Carl Sinke and his children Nicole (Shane) and Trevor; by her son Albert Sinke and wife Kim and their children Tyler and Connor; by her daughter Liz Boyd (Mike) and their daughter Brittny Patterson (Mark) and their child Zoey, their daughter Chelsey Blue (Austin), their daughter Samantha Klassen (Dan) and their children Bryson, Kyler, Zayden and Haelyn, their daughter Victoria VanStemp (Andy) and their child Caleb.

Maartje’s faith was the foundation of her life. She loved Jesus and was always thankful to have been raised in a Christian home. Her faith was strong, guiding her through life with grace, gratitude, and a heart full of love.

Known for her quick wit and warm heart, Maartje had a wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to those around her. She was an avid knitter, not only crafting cozy slippers but also designing and creating beautiful Barbie doll outfits and baby sweaters Her kitchen was always a place of comfort, famous for her soups, Dutch pancakes, corn cookies, and the special grab barrel prizes she loved to share with children. She also had a keen eye for a great find, making garage sales an adventure.

Family gatherings were at the heart of her home, and hot dog days every Thursday were extra special—lunch which was always hotdogs for anyone who could make it.

Maartje’s legacy of faith, love, laughter, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Friends will be received at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church, 735 Frontenac Cres. Woodstock, on Sunday, February 23, 2025 from 2pm-5pm, and again on Monday, February 24 from 11am-12pm.  Funeral service in celebration of Maartje’s life will take place at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church on Monday, February 24, 2025 at 12pm. Private interment at Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery.
