GILBERT, Leroy Earl - We the family sadly announce the peaceful passing of Mr. Leroy Gilbert on February 13, 2011 in Victoria Hospital, London, Ontario. Leroy was predeceased by his wife Ruth (Hill), father-in-law Clarence Hill, and by his parents William Stewart and Mildred Gilbert, sisters Barbra, Clarrisa (Vicky), Priscilla (Peggy), and an infant brother Richard. Also by brothers-in-law John Macko, Earl Stirling, Ron Willard, John Corp, and nephews Wayne Stirling and John Macko Jr., Tim Nickerson and Dave Ballatine. Also great nephew Brandon Carreiro. Leroy is survived by his son Ken (Ross) Gilbert, sisters Veda (May) Marie and his brother Lawrence. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and very good friends. Uncle Leroy was the most loving, kind, gentle soul. He was a constant joker, keeping us all entertained for years. He was a true and loyal friend to all. He was a very loving pet owner for many years to his dogs (Chrissy and Corky). He loved a good cup of tea, but only Carnation milk would do. He loved to play cards, would constantly say we were cheating. He was an adventurer, along with his wife Ruth, moving to different towns and cities. They always seemed to find their way back home to Woodstock or Ingersoll. He was a loving husband, and an adored uncle to us all. Even when he would grab one of us, and he would ground his chin or knuckles on the top of our heads. He was a good son, brother, and father. He was a loyal employee at Firestone in Woodstock from October 20, 1974 until his retirement on August 27, 1985. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Humane Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario and may be arranged through the Longworth Funeral Home, Woodstock, (519-539-0004). There will be a Celebration of Leroy's Life on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Ye Olde Town Hall, 160-A Main St., Ailsa Craig, from 2 - 5 pm. What he possessed was far more courage than we ever could dream. He walks above with our family of angels. We love and miss you all.
