PENNER, Kurt Henry - It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce Kurt's passing at his home in Woodstock, Ontario on January 6, 2019, at the age of 70. His strength, warmth and good humour will be dearly missed by Lila, his treasured wife of over 46 years, his sons, Stephen (Chiyo) and David (Christine), his cherished grandsons, Thomas, Nathan, Hudson and Jasper, his sister, Patricia (Roger) D'Hoker and his brother, Robert (Pom) Penner.
Raised in Port Rowan, Ontario and a graduate of Ryerson Polytechnic Institute, Kurt enjoyed a 33-year career with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) that afforded his family the opportunity to live in seven different cities across four provinces. An avid camper, canoeist, cyclist, curler, quizmaster and vintner, Kurt lived his life to the fullest and enthusiastically encouraged all to do the same.
After receiving a double lung transplant in 2002, Kurt was a tireless advocate for organ and tissue donation awareness, speaking across Ontario, participating in seven Canadian Transplant Games, winning a gold for Canada in lawn bowling at the 2005 World Transplant Games and promoting awareness as a runner in the 2010 Olympic torch relay. His family will be forever grateful to Kurt's donor for their selfless gift of life and the additional 16 years of love and laughter they provided. Kurt was extremely proud to know that after his passing, he himself would become a donor.
Friends are invited to join Kurt's family for a celebration of life at Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock (519-539-0004) on Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
