Helen Kathleen Patience “Kay”

Passed away peacefully on August 12/23, surrounded by family at LHSC University Hospital. She was in her 98th year.  Kay is now reunited with her loving husband Howard (2017). She was the oldest of 5 girls and was born at home in Kintore on December 5, 1925, to Robert Calder and Eva Jean (McGee) Calder. She is survived by her children: Brenda Taruvinga (Ranga), Swaziland, Susan Hearst (D-Jim), Hamilton, Sheila Sharer (D-Kevin), Tucson, Claire Coward (Clayton), Thorndale, Marvin Patience (Joanne), Thamesford. Grandchildren: Kanyadzo Taruvinga Middleton (Avon), Maita Taruvinga Skyle (Reagan), Hamandishe Taruvinga (Giselle) and Nyemu Taruvinga Seye (Babacar), Ryan Coward (Lara), Leisa Coward Wall (Brett), Dianne Coward LeBlanc (Jason), Ashley Patience Arts (Harrie), Jordan Patience(Rachel), Kale Patience(Bridget). Also survived by 25 great grandchildren. She is survived by her sisters Donna McCall(D-Donald) and Marion Hayhurst(D-Bruce) Predeceased by sisters Una Amos Brown (D-Bill) (D-Murray), Julia Woods (D-Clarence) and great grandson Charles. Kay lived a life filled with family, life accomplishments, and adventures. She graduated from Victoria Hospital Nursing School in 1948 and married Howard in September. They moved to R.R. #2 Thamesford and started their family. She used her nursing education to raise her family and care for people in her community of Thamesford. In her earlier days, she was very involved in her church, 4h, gardening, traveling, camping, cooking, farming, quilting, and genealogy. She and Howard traveled the world and made many friends along the way. Later in life, she was an avid reader and word search puzzler. The family would like to thank the staff at Henley Place for the great care they gave to Mom, especially Connie, and Riley. Visitation will be at Brock & Visser Funeral Home, 177 Dundas St. Thamesford on Sunday, August 20 from 1-4 and the Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 21 at 11 am. Interment in Dorchester Union Cemetery. Memorial donations to Westminster United Church, Thamesford, or a charity of your choice.
