Joseph "Joe" Bert Opthof

With broken hearts we are sadden to announce the passing of Joseph Opthof after a battle with heart disease. Survived by his loving and supportive wife Lynne (Kelley) for over 50 years. Proud father of 3 wonderful children Brett (Isabella), Nick (Melanie) and Taylor (Corey). Proud grandfather of grandchildren Manuela, Aldo, Quinn, Massimo, and Brooklyn. Brother to Bert Opthof (Margaret) and brother-in-law to Susan Josey (Greg) and several nieces and nephews. Preceded by his father Pieter and mother Catharina (Romeijnsen) and daughter MacKenzie Brooke. 

Joe was proud of his service to his community as a Woodstock police officer for almost 33 years ending his career as chief of the Woodstock Police Service and Chief of the Oxford Community Police Service. Joe volunteered on various community committees and boards. He was an avid amateur woodworker and enjoyed traveling and reading. 

We would like to express our appreciation to all the family and friends for their kindness and support. A special thanks to Carla and Dave Heffernan, Dr. Jeff Nichols and all the staff at the Woodstock Hospital. 

Cremation has already been completed. Visitation will take place on Saturday January 11, 2025 from 6-8 pm and Sunday Janauary 12, 2025 from 12 noon- 12:45 pm followed by a celebration of life at 1.00 pm all held at Brock and Visser Funeral Home (845 Devonshire Ave. Woodstock, On. 519-539-0004)  A reception will follow in the Brock and Visser Tribute Lounge.
