JOSEF RAZPOTNIK
June 26, 1936 – June 6, 2021
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Josef Razpotnik. Josef (Joe) entered into eternal life on Sunday, June 6th on the feast of Corpus Christi, surrounded by his family and his four-legged companions Laško and Buddy, after a courageous and valiant battle with cancer. His fight was short but intense and Joe battled this brutal disease with every last ounce of his strength.
Joe will be deeply missed by his sweetheart and wife of 63 years Anna (AnÄka) nee Žumbergar, his sons Joseph Peter (Magdalena) and James (Mary-Jane), his loving grandchildren Monika (Louis) Mavec, Joseph Stanley (Molly) Razpotnik, Kristijan Razpotnik and his adoring great-grandchildren Lilija Mavec, Mihelca, Joseph-Stephen and Daniel Razpotnik. His loss will be felt by family members in Canada, the U.S., and Slovenia.
Joe was born in Slovenia, a picturesque, mountainous country nestled in the heart of the Julian Alps. He completed his education and training as a Master Cabinetmaker in Slovenia but yearned for a better life and greater opportunities in Canada. Together with his wife Anna they built a successful business and beautiful home. As a proud Canadian, he was grateful for the success he was able to achieve and gave back to his community through his volunteer work as a life-time member of the Lions Club of Thorndale. Though Canada was his home, he never forgot his roots and was very active in preserving his Slovenian heritage as one of the first members of the Slovenian Cultural and Social Club “Triglav” and one of its longest serving presidents. One of the great joys of Joe’s life was traveling and experiencing new places but his greatest enjoyment came from hosting tour groups to his beloved homeland Slovenia. He was a skilled craftsman, avid gardener, animal lover, and multi-talented man. He leaves a void that will never be filled.
Josef’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to his primary physician Dr. Henry Chapeskie for his extraordinary and compassionate care as well as the entire Palliative care team without whose professionalism, expertise and kindness they could not have cared for Joe at home.
“Dragi Jože, naj ti bo lahka Kanadska zemlja. PoÄivaj v miru.”
