ROBERTSON, John A. - With his wife of 72 years, Lillie, by his side and his family gathered around, "Jack" died peacefully in his 99th year on January 30, 2013 at PeopleCare in Tavistock. The eldest of six children, Jack was born in Merlin, Ontario on May 4, 1914 to Maud and Alex Robertson. Gentle father to his daughter Pamela Ann Orth and her husband Bill (deceased 2009) and son J. Brian Robertson (deceased 2006) and his wife Linda. Grandpa Jack will be missed by his eight grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren. A proud Canadian Veteran of WW II, Jack was a member of the RCAF as both a wireless navigator and gunner. When not in the air, Jack pitched for the RCAF baseball team remaining a sports enthusiast to the very end. Jack was transferred to the RAF in Burma completing his tour of duty in 1945 as Sgt. Robertson. An avid fisherman who loved the outdoors both at his Belmont Lake cottage and home in Winter Haven, Florida, Jack also gave generously of his time to the Optimists and the Delhi United Church. Jack is survived by his two sisters, Marjorie Kelly and Betty Stevenson and predeceased by his three brothers, Dr. William Robertson, Wesley Robertson and Glen Robertson. Friends and relatives will be received at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, 519-539-0004 on Sunday February 3, 2013 from 12:00 - 1:00 pm, where the complete memorial service will be held in the chapel on Sunday at 1:00 pm with Rev. John Furry officiating. Cremation has taken place. Interment later in the Stewart Cemetery, Merlin, ON. If desired, memorial contributions to Sakura House would be appreciated.
