HARDY, John Douglas - Peacefully at the Woodstock General Hospital on Monday, June 7, 2010. John Douglas Hardy of Woodstock in his 85th year. Beloved husband of the late Annie Elizabeth (nee Longworth) Hardy (predeceased 2009). Beloved father of Bill (Darlene) Hardy of Timmins, John Hardy of Timmins and his twin brother David (predeceased 1973). Brother-in-law of Anna Longworth (Archie predeceased) of Woodstock and Patricia Provost (Larry predeceased) of Roanoke, Texas. Survived by grandchildren Laura Deforge, Lisa Bender, Michelle Hardy, Debbie Hardy, David Hardy and Johnathon Hardy. Great grandfather of special little princess Meghan Hardy, Ashley, Mathieu, Bradley, Benjamin, and Jonathan. Great-great grandfather of Mason. Also survived by uncles Albert (Pat) Kirby and Jim Kirby, aunt Nancy Mills, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents William Hardy (1964) and Charlotte Searle (1984), brother Robert (1994) and infant sister May. Doug worked as a Superintendent at the Water Treatment Plant for the City of Woodstock and also drove transport trucks all across Canada and the United States. After retiring, he and Annie enjoyed travelling with their fifth wheel trailer, spending winters near Dauphin Island, Alabama and summers in St. Williams, Ontario before moving back to Woodstock in 2004. Doug always enjoyed fixing things, working in the garage, darts, golf, curling and especially fishing. He loved fish and chips from Mel's and his favourite snacks were chocolate and peanuts, or coffee and a donut. He especially loved spending time with family. Doug was a veteran of WWII in the Merchant Marines, a founding member of the Naval Association of Woodstock, and member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #55. Friends may call at the Longworth Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Ave., Woodstock, (519-539-0004) on Thursday, June 10, 2010 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm where the complete funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday at 11:00 am with Rev. Jane vanPatter officiating. Cremation to follow. Interment later in Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery.
