John Franklin Atkinson

John Atkinson, a man loved by everyone he met, was born on April 26, 1943, and passed away peacefully on August 28, 2023, in Woodstock, Ontario.  Despite suffering for the last 50 years with the lingering effects of an aneurysm, he rarely complained and would much rather laugh and tell a joke.

John is survived by his loving wife of many years, Gloria, and his cherished children, David (Anne) and Laurie Weiandt (Richard). He was a proud grandfather to Ben, Andrew (AJ), Joshua, Daniel, and Emma. He was also great-grandfather of two. John was the deeply loved sibling of Jean Neabel (Paul), Raymond (Margaret) Atkinson, Gary (Alexus) Atkinson, Dorothy (John) Van Asselt, and sister-in-law Judy. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Glory and brother Richard.

John was an active member of Berean Bible Church, now known as The Rock, where he found joy in singing in the choir, leading Boys' Brigade, and serving several times as a Deacon. He loved singing in quartets, often with his brother, Ray, and generally enjoyed music. During his last weeks, he and Gloria would still sing hymns together before going to sleep, and Gloria was amazed that John remembered all the words.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday August 30, 2023, from 4-6 pm and Thursday August 31, 2023, from 10-11 am followed by a Funeral Service at 11 am from the Brock and Visser Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.
