Joel Edward Mills

Joel Edward Mills, 31 years old, of Woodstock, Ontario, passed away on September 10, 2023 when he went home to be with God.

Joel was born on August 17, 1992, to Shelley-Jo and James in Lahr, Germany. After Joel graduated from C.A.S.S. in 2012, he went on to study law at Fanshawe College. After graduating with a degree in law, he wanted to advocate for employee rights in the workplace and he created a union in the Holiday Inn, Woodstock. As a young man, he also served in 31 Combat Engineer Regiment in St. Thomas for the Canadian Forces.

He loved animals, especially his favorite cat, Timmy. He always rose to the occasion to help other people. He was continually giving his bottom dollar away to the homeless. A great conversationalist, he was funny and always seeking truth. He was an avid camper, and hiker, and he loved nature and the peace of flowing water.

He was a hard worker and he believed in acts of service as opposed to materialistic things; for example he helped his mother to build her house and he helped his father with paperwork, including his taxes. He was heavily involved in his younger brother's hockey career. And he helped teach his younger brother and sister how to drive a car. He also helped his friend Gerald pack and move several times.

In 2023, Joel retired from life, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

As we bid farewell to Joel, let us remember him not with sorrow, but with gratitude for the joy he brought into our lives. Let us honour his memory by cherishing our loved ones and embracing the beauty of nature, as he so loved to do.

Joel Edward Mills is survived by his grandmother Oda, his father James, his mother Shelley-Jo (husband Shawn), his brother Joshua (wife Sonilda), his brother Caleb (daughter Gwenhyvar), his sister Demaris, his brother Samuel and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends will be received at Brock & Visser Funeral Home, 845 Devonshire Avenue, WOODSTOCK (519-539- 0004) on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. A memorial service will follow in the chapel at 1:00 pm. Joel will be laid to rest at Williamsburg Cemetery at a later date.
